Yeah get one. The "lag" evident in LCD monitors years ago has pretty much been made moot lately. There's not a great deal of differentiation between brands either. I picked up a cheapish 24" from Hardly Normal.

Samsung screens are still pretty hard to beat and with typical IT price deflation over time they are a reasonable price nowadays. I think most of Dell's screens are built around a Samsung panel as well.

If you're after budget screens a lot of people like the BenQ/Acer screens, but when I used to do system building BenQ/Acer and Lexmark were well known as "fill in" parts for price points so I avoid them, i.e., to build a PC for say $1000 select your MB, CPU, RAM, HD, etc. that you want then fill the rest with BenQ/Acer stuff. My workplace (University) used to use Acer/BenQ PCs and screens and didn't even consider them when the contract came up because the reliability was atrocious.

Just keep in mind that you're likely to still be staring at that screen for many years beyond the life of your PC, so it doesn't hurt to put a few extra $$ in if you can afford it. Also check your resolution versus the screen size, 24" seems to be about right for 1920x1200.

Of course if you decide on Samsung you could always go one of these:

So basically aim for 1920x1200. resolution and a Samsung panel whoever the manufacturer is.

Asus was doing some cashback deal

http://event.asus.com/au/2011/showmethemoney/

that triggered me looking.

this Dell looks very reasonable - has 120$ cashback for a couple of days on it also.

1920 x 1200 resolution is fairly rare in 24 inch monitor these day, Dell is a good choice.

Time for my rant aside....wtf is with monitor manufacturers these days? 3 or 4 years ago, a minimum vertical resolution was 1200, it was looking like more pixels were going to be added as the screens got bigger and cheaper and make even larger resolutions. Somehow though PC manufacturers bought into the fucking TV resultions so now unless you go into the business models you can't get a monitor greater than 1080 vertical res. That res is fucking bullshit for a PC. It's designed for televisions you fuckwits.

I say do not buy 1080 vertical res monitors, make monitor manufacturers scrap the entire stock, no more 1080p monitors, repeat after me, NO MORE 1080p. NO MORE 1080p!

Fuckwits!!

Pretty much what Curt said, 1080 in computer monitor is really bad.

Samsung has a new 1920x1200 LED LCD model out that is 24" and looks to be reasonable.

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?mai ... s_id=18064

And yes I hate this widescreen bullshit that monitor makers go with these days give me the correct res or none at all :!:

I myself am running 2 x samsung 2443BW+ monitors hung by home made brackets from the shelf above my desk so I can slide keyboard and mouse under when not in use. Frees up a lot of desk space for working on other computer repairs
