Got the same results as you Pania when I checked the site out, but if you try the mirror for NZ you may see a better result.

This is later in the day, and with excite.co.nz test mirror. The above tests are New zealand and U.K mirrors.

There's no Aussie server on that site, but testing to the Kiwi server:

From a different test site with an Aussie mirror:

Mirror: [*OptusNet*]

Test Time: [*34.16 secs*]

Your line speed is [*3.67 Mbps*] (3669 kbps).
Your download speed is [*459 KB/s*] (0.45 MB/s). )]

Funny thing.. using my newer router, I was barely breaking 400k/s download. After a volatile week of it randomly and frequently dropping the connection and failing to reconnect, I beat the hell out of it and dragged out my old one. Line is rock solid, and running almost 4x as fast. If you've bought a Linksys WRT54G router, and still have the warranty card, defecate inside the thing and ship it back. Chances are they won't even notice. Worthless piece of.. Merry Christmas! Oh, and that's some serious manwidth you've got going on, Mara.

Bleh, I just downloaded with 2500KB/s from the US and that silly thing tells me it can't handle more than 800 KB/s. Theory<practice

So Optus sent me a new modem ('caues they're upgrading their network and such).

Makes a huge difference (nearly 3 times as fast on the same line):

[`[*Test Results from Oz Broadband Speed Test*]`]
[(----------------------------------
Test run on [*16/01/2008*] @ [*07:27 AM*]

Mirror: [*OptusNet*]
Data: [*15 MB*]
Test Time: [*12.28 secs*]

Your line speed is [*10.2 Mbps*] (10204 kbps).
Your download speed is [*1.25 MB/s*] (1276 KB/s). )]

And on this one even better:
